If you are thinking of buying an electric vehicle, you may be able to save some money on the installation of a charge point by applying for a government grant. Here we explain more about the electric car charger grant and how to get started.
The electric car charger grant is officially known as the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS). If you have a home with off-street parking that can accommodate an electric car charger and an electric vehicle, you can apply to receive up to £350 off the cost of installing a charge point.
Vehicles that have been approved as having ultra-low emission rates by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) can make an application. You can check if your vehicle is eligible here. The vehicle must be leased or purchased as new or second hand on or after October 1st 2016 and you cannot have made a claim against a previous chargepoint scheme.
The charge point must be approved by OLEV and you can only use an OLEV-approved installer like AAC.
You can claim for a maximum of two eligible electric cars that are used at a single domestic property. Before installing a second charge point, the installer will have to speak with your local distribution network operator.
The installation of the charge point must be completed no later than March 31st, 2022.
Your local authority may be able to help via a central government grant if you do not have off-street parking.
The grant will be arranged before installation through an authorised electric car charge point installer like AAC, who will arrange the necessary paperwork. You can then make arrangements with them on how the remaining costs will be paid.
When you set-up an electric car charge point installation through AAC, we will take care of all of the paperwork on your behalf. We’ll only need a few small details and for you to share some documents and we’ll get everything arranged for you.
